[Statement] Rebecca Friedrichs: Parents, Teachers Rightly ‘Horrified’ by California’s Radical Sex Ed Curriculum

Feb. 19, 2019

LOS ANGELES — Rebecca Friedrichs, founder of For Kids & Country, issues the following statement in support of Tuesday’s “SexXXX Ed Sit Out,” which protested the so-called “California Healthy Youth Act.” This act is being used to require the teaching of a sex-education curriculum which is medically inaccurate, totally age inappropriate, instructs children from age 12 — without parental knowledge or consent — on how and where to obtain birth control including abortion and imposes gender identity lessons on children as early as pre-school under the guise of “anti-bullying”:

“Parents — not the State of California or the California Teachers’ Association — bear the responsibility to teach their own children about sex and the values that must surround it. Yet, for some reason, the state and the teachers’ unions have declared themselves the sole authority over what sexual values California’s children and their families should hold. The result — schools must now provide graphic instruction on protections used during vaginal, anal and oral sex, as well as details on where to obtain — without parental knowledge or permission — birth control and abortions.

“I know that many parents are horrified at having their children indoctrinated by this curriculum, and most teachers exposed to the adopted curricula are mortified that they are required to teach it. Our schools are for learning, not sexual indoctrination. That’s why I support Tuesday’s ‘SeXXX Ed Sit Out’ by parents, teachers and school administrators who are bravely pushing back against the overreach of the state. They are calling for the restoration of parental rights, teacher autonomy, and childhood innocence despite virtually guaranteed harassment and coercion to toe the line by the teachers’ unions, the ACLU and their political allies.

“Teachers must ask themselves why the unions, which are supposed to be labor organizations fighting for wages and benefits for teachers hired to serve children, are instead aligned with political groups pushing radical social policies that undermine parents and make teaching in America’s classrooms more challenging. Do state and national unions really represent your values and passion to teach? Do they really deserve your unquestioned loyalty and collective billions in tax-free dues? After teaching in California public schools for 28-years, I started ‘For Kids & Country’ to empower teachers and parents to fight back against the harmful overreach of state and national teacher unions. Standing together, we can protect kids and restore our schools and profession.”
