ORANGE COUNTY — Rebecca Friedrichs, founder of For Kids & Country, issues the following statement condemning California Governor Gavin Newsom’s “Proclamation on Reproductive Freedom” and invitation, via joint letter Friday with the Governors of Washington and Oregon, to women across the country to come to California for abortion services:

“Millions of America’s teachers are pro-life and entered the teaching profession to protect vulnerable children, yet the unions representing us take our dues and lavish our money on politicians who despise our deeply held beliefs. Governor Newsom is one of them. He boasted in his outrageous proclamation Friday that California’s protection of ‘reproductive freedom’ is a ‘model’ to be emulated by other states and then welcomed women across America to come to California to brutally end the lives of the precious, voiceless babies in their wombs.

“The ‘freedom’ he trumpets hides a nasty truth: teachers and taxpayers who value life are forced to fund the murder of millions of innocent babies. The California Teachers’ Association invested heavily in Newsom — they gave his campaign $1.3 million of teachers’ dues! — after he promised, no doubt, to protect their agenda of on-demand abortion, for any reason until birth. Unions are clearly reaping dividends while grossly misrepresenting the teachers and children they claim to serve and protect.

“Pro-life teachers reject Governor Newsom’s proclamation and urge him to quit doing the bidding of wealthy special interests like Planned Parenthood, ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center and state and national teachers’ unions who represent themselves rather than their members. It’s time for California’s leadership to start listening to the millions of voices of constituents who do not support this radical agenda. The very lives of innocent children are at stake.”
