LOS ANGELES — Rebecca Friedrichs, founder of For Kids & Country, issues the following statement:
“Everyone agrees that great teachers deserve decent pay. Everyone agrees that our children deserve a quality education. Yet, parents and kids are choosing to escape union dominated schools like Oakland’s because our public schools have lost their mission to provide stellar educational opportunities, safety, and the values necessary to a thriving Republic. Instead, unions have morphed our schools — on purpose — into social, sexual and political war zones. They’ve degraded our schools with lack-luster learning, dangerous ‘racial equity’ discipline policies, ‘health’ curricula used to sexualize children and have focused on morphing little kids ready for learning into angry social justice warriors.
“Thanks to these unions, our state house is dominated by politicians whose policies chase strong businesses out of California, increase taxes and the cost of living and overburden our schools with impossible, often dangerous, mandates. That’s why Oakland teachers, whose pay scale reaches $83,723.50, are struggling to make ends meet. Instead of burdening citizens for more and more, I hope good and loving teachers will take the time to learn that their unions are actually the problem — not the answer. Parents cannot escape union dominated schools fast enough. I hope teachers will run too.”
