[Statement] Rev. Samuel Rodriguez Applauds President Trump’s Visits to Saudi Arabia and Israel

May. 22, 2017

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, applauds President Trump’s activities in Saudi Arabia and Israel and issues the following statement:

“Simply put, President Trump’s first foreign state visits have been nothing short of historic. By visiting first Saudi Arabia, home of the two holiest sites in Islam, and then by becoming the first sitting U.S. president to visit the Western Wall, the holiest site in Judaism, and finally by visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where tradition maintains Jesus was buried and resurrected, President Trump has sent a powerful message to the great religions of the world that now is the time to forge a real and lasting peace in the Middle East.

“Instead of ignoring or downplaying the role of faith—as many politicians have mistakenly done throughout the years—our president has instead honored its unparalleled influence on the hearts and minds of believers to advance the cause of peace.

“Thanks in large part to these bold actions, we stand at the precipice of what could be a new beginning, one that promises cooperation and collaboration with our Arab friends and allies. I applaud President Trump and his administration and call on Christians everywhere to do our part, praying for peace in this critically important corner of the world. May God protect Israel and the entire Middle East, and may God bless peace-loving peoples everywhere.”
