[Statement] Rev. Samuel Rodriguez Issues Statement Reacting to Senate’s Failure to Pass a Bipartisan Immigration Bill Addressing DACA Solution

Feb. 15, 2018

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, issues the following statement:

“I am disappointed that today, after four separate votes, the Senate was unable to come together on a single bipartisan bill that would provide a permanent legal solution for Dreamers along with enhanced border security. I join millions of other Americans around this nation in my frustration for this legislative impasse – not the least of which are the 1.8 million Dreamers who are once again stuck in legal-status limbo.

“Voters from both sides of the political aisle are waiting for a solution because we know the only barriers to getting a bill passed are political in nature, imaginary in substance and not reflective of the compassionate heartbeat of Americans everywhere. Congress must stop kicking the can down the road and act. Now is the time for a permanent solution for Dreamers.”
