SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, issues the following statement after the Senate failed to bring the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to a final floor vote:
“I am deeply saddened by the news that the Senate failed to pass the Pain Capable Act, which would have banned abortion after 20 weeks. As we struggle for critically important reforms which uphold and affirm the sanctity of all human life – such as permanent protection for Dreamers – are we in the same breath willing to forget those who have no voice? Are we content to settle for so little as a society? Shall we allow our treatment of the unborn to be on par with that of China’s and North Korea’s? I invite all those who believe in defending the unborn to pray without ceasing, and ask God to give our nation the courage of our own ideals and correct this grievous wrong. I strongly urge the Senate to revisit Pain-Capable and pass this common-sense and humane bill.”
