[Statement] Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Issues Statement in Aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

Aug. 29, 2017

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, issues the following statement in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey:

“It’s truly heartbreaking to watch news coverage of the devastation unleashed by Hurricane Harvey on the state of Texas, the city of Houston and surrounding areas. The Bible says to ‘mourn with those who mourn’ and so we pray with heavy hearts for the lives that have been lost, as well as for all of those who have lost their homes, belongings and property.

“I want to commend the swift and decisive action taken by both Gov. Abbott and President Trump, deploying all available resources at their disposal including emergency personnel and the National Guard, whose heroic rescue efforts have already saved many lives. We too must do our part. I encourage everyone who can to donate to both immediate and long term needs. The NHCLC mobilizes our relief efforts through Convoy of Hope and Somebody Cares, two amazing and trustworthy organizations that will ensure your contributions are directly used to help those most in need on the ground.

“To our many friends and family in the state of Texas, we want you to know that we are one with you in prayer and in spirit. May God give all those impacted peace and security in the days, months and years ahead as they recover and rebuild in the aftermath of this storm.”
