FOREST, Va. – Vernon Brewer, World Help’s president and founder, released the following statement today on World AIDS Day:
“Nearly 35 years after its discovery, AIDS still remains one of the deadliest diseases on earth. More than 36 million people carry the HIV virus today, and despite the great strides we’ve taken to eradicate it, more than 2 million people contract it every year. Millions more suffer daily because they still don’t have access to treatment.
“On this World AIDS Day, we must remember that our fight against this disease is not over. We must redouble our efforts to reach all who need our help, including those who are the peripheral victims of this epidemic. HIV does not only damage those it infects — it damages all of us, especially by robbing children of their parents and crippling their chances of success in life. The road ahead is long and there’s still much work to be done, but we can touch a life every day and slowly bring hope to millions who are anxiously awaiting good news.”
World Help cares for children who have been orphaned by AIDS through its Villages of Hope in Africa. Each Village of Hope provides vulnerable AIDS-affected children with a family-style living arrangement, the security of a loving community, and a safe haven while they grow.
